BOE Flexible Display Screen Redefines Folding Smartphone

BOE flexible display screen with double-stack tandem structure enables high brightness, improved power efficiency and long lifespan.

BOE pioneers the Future of Flexible Display Screens

As folding tablets, rollable TVs and shape-changing gadgets capture consumer curiosity, one leading flexible display screen pioneer drives this revolution from R&D roots to widescale manufacturing reality – BOE Technology Group. Through relentless innovation and enormous fabrication investments, BOE readies next-generation flexible panels and bespoke production partnerships bringing novel bending/rollable screens mainstream across devices.

Globally renowned for display advances leveraged to volume produce affordable yet exceptional LCD and OLED screens, BOE doubles down on flexible display dominance through cutting-edge manufacturing lines fine-tuned specifically for emerging form factors. Rather than retrofitting existing tools, the company designed its Chengdu bendable module factory from the ground up to handle delicate flexible display engineering, processing, testing and assembly at scale.

The fruits of such efforts see BOE uniquely able to empower partners seeking to integrate customized flexible displays transforming their products’ functionality literally on-demand. Imagine smartphones unfolding their screens to double visible area whenever more workspace proves useful. How about tablets that compress into pockets then spring back to 10”+ dimensions when needed? Or spectacle-style AR glasses expanding powerful stereo OLED imagery when active, then collapsing into ordinary eyewear. BOE makes such innovation commercially viable.

However curious consumers often ponder questions like:

How durable are flexible screens to repeated daily bending?

Fortified plastic or glass substrates prevent common display cracks while SRp air cushions absorb severe impacts. Displays withstand over 200,000 folds without performance deterioration.

Can flexible screens roll or fold fully?

Yes – BOE’s proprietary flexible display technology enables screens wrapping completely with no visible crease at the fold point for smoother graphics and prevention of delicate pixels pinching.

Do flexible screens require special power or processing components?

Flexible displays utilize tailor-made flexible batteries and pCBs to interconnect moving display/components across bends without wiring failures.

What future applications may BOE’s flexible displays enhance?

possibilities span rollable tablets/TVs, glasses and smartphones reshaping to different positions, collapsing laptops for transport, wrapping bus ads around pillars, and wearables with adjustable display dimensions per user customization.

Does image quality or durability suffer versus fixed displays?

Thanks to BOE’s advances in fortified substrates, pixel materials, flexible components and precision engineering, flexible displays achieve parity with rigid counterparts in all performance metrics.

At the frontier pioneering the impending flexible device revolution, BOE continues maturing novel bendable, foldable and rollable display manufacturing processes until ready for high-volume commercialization. Their vast expertise promises upcoming flexible tablets, wearables and more perform as impressively as traditional fixed-form displays. The future beckons pliable – unfold it yourself through trailblazer BOE Technology.

On September 19th, 2023, Honor unveiled its latest foldable phone, V Purse. This 7.71-inch flexible OLED display, offering a thinner and lighter folding experience, is supplied by BOE. It delivers superb image quality and extreme durability for over 200,000 folds.

This BOE OLED display has a resolution of 2348×2016 and a brightness of up to 1600 nits. Contents look clear even under sunlight. The exceptionally high pixel density and contrast ratio ensures that every image displayed is vivid. This flexible OLED display uses BOE’s proprietary Q9 materials, which enable a high PWM frequency of 2160Hz and significantly reduce screen flicker.

BOE has been the world’s 2nd largest flexible OLED manufacturer in terms of shipment volume. In 2023H1 alone, BOE has shipped more than 50 million flexible OLED displays, which is an 80% YoY increase. These displays have been integrated into over 45 flagship products.

BOE has been actively participating in drafting the industry standards for foldable displays, including side-folding displays, outward-folding displays, and inward-folding displays. OLED is inherently flexible, making it an ideal candidate for flexible display screens. Unlike traditional LCDs, which require a backlight and multiple layers, OLED panels are made from organic materials that emit light when electricity is applied. This property allows OLED panels to be extremely thin and bendable, a crucial requirement for the flexible display screens in foldable phones. In the mean time, flexible display screens based on OLED technology offer high contrast ratios, true blacks, and vibrant colors. Flexible display screens need to be as thin as possible to minimize the bulkiness of a foldable smart phone. OLED’s ability to operate without a backlight allows for thinner, lighter flexible display screens, which is critical for the sleek design and user comfort. Another significant advantage of OLED in flexible display screens is its energy efficiency, which is especially important given the larger screen sizes of foldable smart phones.

BOE has been a long-term partner of Honor, launching a series of innovative products together, including the Honor 90 series and Magic V. Honor V Purse marks another milestone between Honor and BOE. BOE will continue to innovate and empower partners to introduce more foldable products. Durability is a key concern for any flexible display screen, especially in foldable phones that are constantly being opened and closed. OLED technology addresses this concern effectively. OLED panels can withstand repeated bending and folding without compromising on performance. This resilience makes OLED-based flexible display screens a reliable choice for the demanding mechanics of foldable phones.
