BOE and Corning unveiled their upgraded joint innovation space on October 16 at the BOE Technology Innovation Center. The upgrade deepens their technology partnership and expands joint research beyond displays into new areas of optoelectronic innovation.
The upgraded space supports joint research, technology validation and application development across five fields. Exhibits at the launch demonstrated progress in each area.

Glass Substrates for Advanced Packaging
The partners presented advanced packaging samples featuring through-glass via (TGV) and glass-core solutions. These exhibits highlighted glass substrates as a focus of their joint development efforts.
Perovskite Devices for Low-Light Energy
BOE demonstrated a glass-based perovskite photovoltaic model for indoor and low-light power generation. The model addresses performance limitations of conventional crystalline silicon solar technology under these conditions.
Micro LED Optical Interconnects
BOE showcased a functional prototype for Micro LED optical interconnects. The system demonstrated optical data transmission, extending Micro LED applications beyond display technology.

Bendable Glass and Flexible OLED
Corning’s glass materials appeared alongside BOE’s mirror-smooth flexible OLED display. Optimized materials and structures make the fold visually imperceptible when the screen is illuminated.
Micro LED for Automotive Displays
A Micro LED smart cockpit display demonstrated high brightness, high transparency and reliability for automotive applications. These capabilities support further exploration of display integration within vehicle interiors.
The shared research platform connects technology exploration, joint development and product innovation. A project-based collaboration model will help the partners evaluate promising technologies and advance them toward commercial applications.

Chairmen Discuss the Partnership
BOE Chairman Chen Yanshun highlighted more than two decades of cooperation and the innovation space’s establishment in 2022. He described the upgrade as a key step under the May memorandum. Chen said joint projects would accelerate the transition from laboratory research to commercial deployment.
Corning Chairman, CEO and President Wendell P. Weeks noted the partnership’s expansion from displays into emerging technology fields. Weeks said the upgraded space would combine both companies’ technical strengths to support further exploration and future applications.
